KOREAN GARAGE© | Domains | The Spectra Converted 2001 Sephia | page #9 What is a Air Dam? Well it is a front wing. Used on sports cars to reduce undercar turbulance to improve high end speed. Also used on some econboxs to improve highway gas mileage. Why didn't KIA put one on the Sephia? Well because with up to 5% more gas mileage(2-3 mpg) and the possible ground clearance problem. They just did not feel the need.

The Air Dam is 2 1/2" lower than the lowest part of the floor. Which should be about 15%-20% less undercar resistance. Which translates to about 3%-5% overall less turbulance. Not a lot but should mean about 1-3 mph top speed. The biggest atvantage is that it causes a slight vaccum below the front end of the car.

My plan is over the next couple of years to cover the entire underside of the car to smooth it out. But before I can do that I will need a vented hood(KFX Carbon). There has to be somewhere for the hot aire to escape, and over the car is perferable.

I will let everyone know at the end of the week if Gas mileage improves.
